Hinter der Maske

 

Board game, role game and narrative game - In a far-away future, the T.I.M.E. Agency (Tachyon Insertion in Major Events), sees to it that unintentional or illegal time travels do not effect the main time axis of the world. As Time Agents of this Agency we travel into other eras and try to complete our mission there, using a host body. This body gives the player / agent control over all abilities, characteristics and equipment of the host. Should the host die or time run out without successful completion of the mission, the mind of the agent can be transferred back without a problem and a new run can begin.

A first scenario is included in the core game, others are available as card decks in separate boxes. Those decks must be handled exactly according to instructions, because usually you need to solve a mystery, so all that you read, see and hear is important. A mission begins at headquarters, one run commands X Time Units; placing/exploring locations and changing locations alternate until time has run out; basic mechanism is accessing cards, reading and evaluating them.

Hinter der Maske is the third scenario. We travel back to ancient Egypt to solve a crime; this scenario makes use of Instantaneous Transfer for the first time. We arrive on the day on which Howard Carter opened the Burial Chamber of Tutankhamun, but .... the Mask is missing. The rest? Find out for yourself!

A fascinating game idea, marvelously and lovingly interpreted, albeit only playable once by the same group of players, just until the solution is found; very little luck and a good memory and narrative style are in demand.
