Steam Torpedo

Premier Contact

In an alternate steampunk universe world powers at the start of the 20th century fight with a highly toxic gaseous weapon. After 10 years of war traveling on land is nearly impossible and submarines become all-important.

At the start each player assembles his submarine from 10 compartments which represent the equipment of the submarine. In the playing area aka the battle zone each of the two markers indicates the position in relation to the enemy - front, back, starboard or portside - and also the range. Five crew members - captain and four mates - activate submarine compartments and trigger various effects, mainly with the aim to damage or destroy the opposing submarine. If you destroy the enemy’s control compartment or eliminate all opposing crew members, you win.

Compartments in the submarine are Standard, Engine with influence on movement, Armored to minimize or deflect damage and Experiment to be activated during the turn of your opponent. Each compartment carries up to 3 structural points; when all have been destroyed the compartment is destroyed. A turn comprises the Recovery Phase with removing of an oxygen marker and readying exhausted crew members and then the Action Phase with movement of the submarine and crew activation for effects.

This is basically a tabletop with extensive detailed rules on battle zone segments, orientation of submarines, movements of submarine and crew as well as effects of individual actions; it is, for instance, differentiated between effects on a crew mate and effects on the captain. Definitely an interesting addition to the genre of conflict simulation for two players.
