RoLL for Crowns

Each player has a board and 18 chips of his color; the board shows a top row of spots 1-5 and spot 6 in a separate column. Beneath that spot 6, in the separate column you find spots 5-1. In the grid beneath and to the left of those spots there are spots marked with crowns or 0, and left of the grid you find the dice sides’ values from 1 to 6.

You roll dice and cover spots on your board with chips to score points. In your turn you roll all six dice once and place then between zero and six chips, according to the result. You mark a number according to its occurrence in the roll. You choose which results you want to use, need not use all results and can change dice values to lower values provided this lower value occurred at least once in the original dice roll result.

If someone has placed all his 18 chips, the boards are scored at the end of this round: All chips in rows, columns or diagonals within the 5x5 grid are removed, individual chips on the border row and column remain in place. Those chips will always score points, but are never part of a row, column or diagonal. Then crowns on remaining spots covered with chips score one point per crown and you win with the highest total score.

Easy but not simple - the dilemma is always about either covering a single spot of high value in the grid risking that the row, column or diagonal will not be completed, or do I choose the safe version, if possible, and cover a border spot that will always score. In any case a nice, well-made family game with a high replay value, because it must always be possible to do better, roll better or make better use of the results.
