Match’n’Turn

a dynamic lotto

The mechanism of Lotto is standard – each player has a board showing various images and tries to be first to fill his board with tiles that show the same images as the cases on his board.

In this game, however, there are 48 double-sided tiles - showing different images on both sides - that must be placed on corresponding lots on the boards, but those boards keeps changing. All image tiles are divided randomly into four stacks and set ready. You always play with four boards; four players use one board each; in case of three players one player handles two boards, and in a game of two players each player has two boards. As active player you compare the images on his board with the top images in all four stacks. If you find a correlation you take the tile and put it – corresponding image face-down – on the board. Thus you see now the different image on the back of the tile you placed and the board has changed, you must now also look for this new image. Your turn ends when you cannot find a corresponding image. When nobody can find a corresponding image, all remove all their tiles from the board and set the, aside and play continues. When the last image has been taken, you win with most images, that is, the highest stack of tiles.

In a game of three players one player uses two boards, he begins the game and you play a total of three rounds, so that every player has played with two boards once; after each round a game master must note the results.

This is an attractive and very unusual version of the lotto mechanism; the changing board demands concentration and continually re-memorizing of images that are currently needed.
