Rubbish Auction

Versteigerung im Fundbüro

Well, again there is auction, at a depressing time, and you do not want to win it, either, because all that’s of offer is rubbish, anyway, but then, on the other hand, we are nouveau riche and want to show off.

Seven items are for auction; you have a set of money cards and put your marker on 30 on the fame track. Each player is secretly assigned a geek card which lists two items that are his secret target.

The starting player takes an item of his choice, and then hands the card for the first bid to any player or to himself. Then the new starting player makes a secret bid first, all others must see the number of cards he bids. The next player can look at one card of the bid or at one of the remaining cards, in case the bid comprises only one card, and then makes his bid. When all have bid, the bids are revealed simultaneously. The player with the highest bid receives the item and loses as many fame points as he has spent money. The player with the lowest bid is considered a cheapskate and receives nothing. All other players receive fame points equal to their bid, but cannot use the highest card in their bid in the next round.

When all items have been auctioned, you receive 30 points for each of your target items that you were able to acquire and then win with most fame points.

What makes this auction stand out, is the penalty for the highest bid; you must consider well if the 30 points for a target item equal the loss of fame for the highest bid plus the money while all others gain fame. Challenging, basically simple and a well-made and well working version of an auction game.
