Hot Tin Roof

Katzen über den Dächern der Stadt

Cats high over the city roofs. Cat gangs want to assemble and you build catwalks and shelters for them, rewarded with good food. Home tiles are stacked face-down, three of them are placed face-up under the so marked dumpsters and 14 cans of sardines are distributed on the board. A number of fish are laid out as the fish market and you start with 10 cans of sardines in your personal stock.

In your turn you do those actions in sequence: 1) Place on can of sardines on each of the five dumpsters; 2) choose a dumpster, take all cans there and implement the action indicated by the chosen dumpster: Build either a catwalk across a gap or build a shelter on a patio or take one of the three open-faced home tiles and place cats of your color on the patios indicated on the tile. 3) Move your own cats across the roofs; if you use opponents’’ catwalks, you pay them one can of sardines; if you enter an opponent’s shelter you pay two cans of sardines; you do not pay leaving a shelter. Cat movement must end on a patio or a shelter. If two of your cats meet on the same patio you get a fish and the cats are taken off the board. When the last fish is taken from the market the game ends - you pay for cards left on the board and win the title of Top Cat if you have collected most cans of sardines, 1 fish is worth 10 cans.

Hot Tin Roof is a nicely made family game with a cute topic, which quickly turns from tactical consideration to racing your cats across the roofs for cans; it players quickly, is quickly explained and - in a three-player game - also interesting for experienced players; names of company members on the home tiles are a nice detail.
