PLAYED FOR YOU

Faulpelz

Collect lions or sloths?

Sloths from the animal kingdom are lazing about, lions, pandas, hippos and sloths themselves, waiting to be collected in sets. 105 animal tiles – six kinds of animals with 15 tiles each plus 15 2Schräge Vogel of three types – are placed in an open 15x7 grid with a frame, that leaves two sides of the grid accessible. Each player has a set of six animal cards, shuffled and stacked face-down, and draws three in hand.

In your turn you play a card from your hand and take an animal tile from the display; the tile you take must show the animal depicted on the card you played and at least one edge of the tile must be accessible. Then you take a second tile, which must be adjacent to the first you took, horizontally or vertically, but you do not play a card for this tile. Then you end your turn by drawing a card.

Each animal tile shows symbols and a number; a complete set of a kind comprises tiles showing as many symbols in total as the number indicates and is set aside face-down. Schräge Vögel are jokers, replace any animal and must be assigned instantly, only one kind can be in a set and you cannot begin a set with them. When the cards have been played twice, you win with most points from completed sets.

Faulpelz starts slowly, is its name indicates, but if you want to achieve the best possible result form 24 tiles – that’s all that you get – you must keep an eye on what others are collecting and strive to combine getting the best for yourself with not making too much available for others. The chance element comes solely from the cards! Not a game for experts, but more interesting that it seems at first glance.
