PLAYED FOR YOU

The Arabian Pots

Sorting by sound

Pots are missing identification tags and therefore must be sorted by sound. Three groups of three pots make three different sounds, a tenth pot is a silent pot without any sound.

In the standard game you must form a row of three pots with the same sound. In your turn you either shake a pot to hear the sound or switch two pots in the same row or column. This should be done without any sound from the pots. If you believe that a row or column is complete you announce this and shake all pots in the row or column that you named. If you are correct, you win. If not, you have to pass your turn in the next round.

In the advanced version of the game the silent pot is involved. All sound pots are placed on the board, then the starting player puts the silent pot on the board and removes one pot, while all other players close their eyes. When someone shakes the silent pot in the course of the game, all players but the active one close their eyes and he switches the silent pot with one of his horizontal or vertical neighbors.

In yet another version players take a pot in turn. Then the silent pot is placed into the middle of the board; all now shake their pots and place them on the board, the remaining pot is taken out of play. If you shake the silent pot, you do a switch as in the advanced version, but must pass your next turn.

To begin with, I have to mention the very pretty pots and then praise the short and precise rules and also the option to play the game with sight-impaired persons – you simply name the number of the spot on which shaken or switch pots stand. A very good sound memo game for all the family!
