The game starts with a bidding phase – all display any number of their cards; Crown for most cards and Shield for second-most cards are assigned in several steps; the number of cards displayed determines the target number of points. Then Crown and Shield select a number or color from their own display for trump, the Crown’s color or number trumps the Shield’s color or number. Then Crown selects a partner – not Shield – and they play a trick-taking game against all other players in the Shield team. When all tricks are played, the tricks are scored for individual players and the two teams for achieving their target number, plus a trump bonus. After a previously agreed number of games, you win with most points.
