Colonies

Resources management in space

Each player administrates a planet with a unique resource, trade agreements with all other planets guarantee access to the resources of those planets.

In ten rounds equal to ten years you play four phases each: 1) Income with resource production and arrival of colonist according to the known event card 2) Event phase with voting and resolving of event card plus revealing of the next event card 3) Action phase with three action for each player and 4) Upkeep phase with fulfilling of trade agreements, placement of pirates and change of starting player.

In Phase One you produce resources according to trade agreements and individual industry level and acquire colonists according to event card and number of round or you earn credits according to Community level. In Phase Two you cast votes according to your current level of influence and can buy one vote for each resource spent. When the current event card is implemented you turn up the next for next round. In Phase Three you choose three actions: Community to rehabilitate pirates and resources from the band; Military for hunting pirates and money from opponents, Commerce with sale of resources for credits, Influence to adapt trade agreements, Industry to produce resources and colonists or Technology to advance one technology by one level for money. In Phase Four you meet travel agreements and then remaining colonists turn pirates.

This is resources management at its best! Negotiations as central element of the game distinguish Colonies from other game of the genre and influence the time to play massively! A game that is well worth getting acquainted with!
