PLAYED FOR YOU

Oink!

Seven or pig? Call Oink!

90 cards comprising 14 dogs, cats, donkeys, sheep and chicks each, and each of them 2x in values 0-6, plus 6 pigs of values 7, are dealt evenly dealt to players and stacked face-down in front of them. Each player decides on a hand for hitting the stack and one for turning up cards.

In turn you reveal your top card and place it openly on the stack in the middle. If the two top cards show the same animal, you hit the stack and make the corresponding animal noise. When the two top cards add up to the total of seven or when the top card is a pig, you hit the stack and shout “Oink!”. When – which is rare – the top two cards show the same animal AND add up to seven, you make the animal noise.

If you hit the stack correctly, you take the stack and set them aside for a score pile. In case of the same correct sound you win if you hit the stack faster. If you make a mistake, you must do a monkey, that is, scratch yourself on the head with the hand you use for hitting and call “Uh Uh” once. As an alternative you can agree that for a mistake you must discard one card from your score pile and must only do the monkey if you have no score pile.

If you run out of cards during a round, you don’t reveal cards but can hit the stack. If someone is out of cards at the end of the round or if within a round all player stacks are empty, you win with most cards in your score pile.

Baa! Moo! Oink! Big-time fun in a family game featuring standard familiar mechanism, which have been varied very nicely. Paying attention to three different conditions that merit hitting the stack playfully trains concentration and doing sums in your head quickly.
